"It's so beautiful..." The young girl with the blue ribbon in her hair and a tied braid hanging off her right ear said in wonder as the stones under her feet sparkled and glittered in the sunlight. "I can even see my reflection!" she cried out overjoyed and bent down to her toes to see her own smiling face. She made a funny face at the sliver shine and unexpectedly, heard a laugh other than her own.
"Huh? Who's there?" she asked.
For a minute, there was no response until someone spoke up. "Now, ain't that a silly question to ask."
Dorothy turned to the miles and miles of corn fields and saw a silhouette of a person sitting on a pool. From what she would tell, he was leaning against the main pole and laid across the criss-crossing wood lazily with a piece of straw dangling out of his mouth.
"What do you mean?" Dorothy asked, somehow cautious of the mysterious person.
"Well, if you want to know who's around you, when obviously you don't by how scared you are, why ask?" the stranger said with a wide grin.
Dorothy blinked as the man suddenly grabbed the pole and gracfully leaped off it, landing right beside the startled girl. "But since you asked, I'm Scarecrow! What's you-"
And that when the hat nearly fell off. "Hey! I need this on!"
Dorothy stared at him panting with a terrified expression all over her face. "You...you spoke!" she cried out, earning a "no duh" look from the walking talking doll. He smiled uneasily at her shivering form and said, "Well, yeah. I have to to talk to you."
"B-But! Scarecrows don't talk!" she nearly screamed out.
"Really?" the man said surprised. He folded his arms and stared at her suspiciously. "What kind of nutty place do you live in woman?"
Dorothy blinked and sent him an irritated glare. "A normal one, that's what. Now, if you excuse me." she said and turned away walking in fast strides.
"W-Wait!" Scarecrow cried and ran after her. "You don't know where your going!"
The brunette paused in her stride to think more clearly. She hung her head as she realized he was right. "Yeah...I don't. I'm so lost, I think the maps would even laugh at me."
"Aw, cheer up!" Scarecrow said nervously patting her back. It shook with sniffles and he grew flustered. "H-Hey! Um, I'll guide! How's that?"
"Yah sure! Just tell em where your heading!" he said with another grin. 'I'll tell her later I have no idea what this place has other than a cornfield.' he thought.
"Oh thank you so much!" Dorothy cried out and hugged the straw man to herself, making him blush brighter than an apple.
"Ah, well, no problem." he said returning the hug tenderly. "Now come on! We just have to stick with the Silver Road, and we'll come up somewhere eventually!"
